Chinese Pomfret Demystified
Chinese Pomfret is one of the most in-demand fish in the Pomfret family. Rightly so for it has the most wonderful soft texture and an inherent sweet taste. It is undoubtedly the tastiest of all Pomfrets.
Often people are not quite sure how to identify Chinese Pomfret from the regular white Pomfret. It is quite difficult to tell the difference between them for the un-seasoned fish buyers. The most important differentiating factor is the shape. Though both are broad, the Chinese Pomfret are tad more so especially around the head and also fin to fin. The Chinese Pomfret always has slightly darker pinkish grey hue to its skin.
Chinese Pomfret are loaded with health benefits too, which is probably why they have been a popular choice of fish for ages in the Asian region. They are rich in Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids that help reduce cholesterol and heart diseases. They also provide us with Vitamins B3, B12 & D, iron and magnesium. They are known to have only negligible levels of mercury too.
